RIVER SEVERN - BEAUCHAMP COURT

This single bank fishery situated downstream of Worcester, acquired by the Society in 1996 and has afforded fishery members with arguably some of the best barbel fishing in the country. Numerous double figure fish to just under16 lbs and multiple catches of smaller fish are commonplace. Many members have recorded their first "double" here. There are also specimen carp, roach, pike, zander and chub. The stretch has seen some hard work over the past two closed seasons and numerous swims are now opened up again.

RIVER TRENT - SUTTON

We have 2 1/4 miles of tidal Trent at Sutton including Normanton and Girton on the opposite bank. First impressions can be deceptive as it looks featureless and barren, but there are many underwater features from rocky areas to gravel runs. A tide chart is a must as locals reckon the top of the tide is favourite. A word of warning here is that when the tide turns you will have to retreat fairly quickly, so extra care must be taken at night.

RIVER TEME - BRANSFORD

A delightful two mile (approx.) single bank stretch of Worcestershire's River Teme, situated downstream of Bransford Bridge. If you like catching the hardest fighting barbel anywhere in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings the Teme is for you. Multiple catches are always on the cards and doubles are now appearing regularly. Night fishing is permitted and a secure padlocked carpark is available at the Court fishery, with access restrictions posted, for farm security. Fast streamy shallows, deepening pools and lots of bankside cover make this fishery the very essence of the barbel experience.

RIVER SWALE - TOPCLIFFE

The Society is fortunate enough to control this beautiful piece of water. 3/4 mile in length it comprises of two fields above the A168 and two fields below. Tree lined in places it has everything from deeps to glides to shallow gravel runs with plenty of fish in the 7-8lb bracket with the odd bigger one thrown in for good measure. It is a 'special' place for those who grow to love it, through their successes.

HAMPSHIRE AVON - DOWNTON

We have been very fortunate to retain the rights to this stretch for this season, 2008-2009.The fishery is approximately ¾ mile (750metres) in length and has an accessible island about half way along, so affording virtual double bank fishing, in this area. It is known to hold most species from carp and barbel to chub and roach, a good mixed fishery.

New for Season 2008/09, River Great Ouse, Haversham Hill Farm.

The Barbel Society is pleased to to advise Members that we have acquired access to this 'new' fishery for the Season 2008-2009.

We have entered into an affiliation with the Leighton Buzzard Working Men's Club(Angling Section) which already has the lease of the water and this will result in a sharing of the lease arrangements.

The water, on the River Great Ouse, is a prime barbel and mixed fishery with specimen barbel, chub, roach, perch and pike.

AFFILIATIONS AND DISCOUNTS

The Barbel Society is affiliated to Reading and District Angling Association, and members can obtain RDAA books on application to Fisheries Panel Chairman Mike Osborne enclosing the appropriate fee.

The RDAA control some of the most prolific barbel stretches on the Kennet, including the famous Upper and Lower Benyons.

If you know of any suitable waters that you feel would be of interest to the Society, then please drop Mike Osborne a line giving him as much information as possible. But be aware it is not Society policy to wrestle waters from clubs with open membership by gazumping them, not only would it be unethical, it would also be a pointless exercise.

Permits are available for each individual fishery, or as combined tickets for two or three fisheries. Please note you must be a current BS Member to join a fishery.

All enquiries to Mike Osborne, The Cottage, Newton Arlosh, WIGTON, Cumbria, CA7 5ET.
