AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The Society is designed to provide an effective link for ALL barbel anglers and to represent their interests effectively. The formal objectives of the Society are:

1. To promote the barbel and its conservation, the conservation and development of suitable barbel fisheries and the quality of the environment in which they are sited, the highest standards of the sport of barbel angling, to promote public awareness of these standards and the need for barbel and fisheries conservation.

2. To disseminate information on barbel angling and conservation techniques.

3. To research the ecology, habitat, life cycle and behaviour of the barbel.

4. To secure effective consultation with the Environment Agency and other relevant bodies to ensure that the interests of the barbel and the views of barbel anglers in the furtherance of these objectives are taken into proper account.

5. To promote the development of suitable barbel fisheries including the acquisition and management of fisheries for such propose.

BENEFITS

The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter and a twice-yearly magazine.
An annual conference and General Society meeting will be held to allow the Committee to account for its stewardship of the Society's affairs.

In addition, the Society controls several prime barbel fisheries for the sole use of its members, subject to payment of an additional fee and there being vacancies on the relevant fishery.
We want you to participate actively in the Society's affairs. There may well be an established region in your area. If so, details will be furnished when you join. If not, perhaps you would be willing to become a Regional Contact and set up your region, let us know.


The Regional Co-ordinator or the Secretary can give you all the assistance and information you may require.
If you want to be involved in the work of any of the Specialist Panels please let us know.


SOCIETY'S ORGANISATION

A main Committee co-ordinates the Society's activities and deals with major issues. It consists of President, Vice- President, Chairman, Secretary, Membership Secretary and Treasurer.
There are four Specialist Panels run by the Panel Chairman, namely Research and Conservation, Youth Development, Fisheries and Communication.

The Panel Chairman are members of the main Committee and share decision making on important issues.
Regional groups give a local dimension and contact point for members. Regional Contacts meet yearly with the Regional Co-ordinator and Committee to ensure effective liaison.


Society merchandise, exhibitions, conference organising and advertising are all dealt with by their respective managers.
The Society also has its own Legal Advisor.
