Steve 'eelfisher' Richardson
Secretary

eelfisher-1@live.co.uk

Age: 49 years old.

Hometown: Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire.

Occupation: Upholsterer by trade. Presently Production Manager for a high quality furniture manufacturer.

Married: Married to Erica. Three children, Lisa, Karl and Amanda.

Most memorable day: No one day stands out as the 'most' memorable although catching my first 20lb pike and having it witnessed by Barrie Rickards was special. Also catching three 20lb pike in one day was very nice. I would say that catching my first 10lb plus barbel off the rivers Trent and Derbyshire Derwent were landmarks of some note for me.

Achievements in regards to barbel fishing: None in the form of record breaking fish or huge fish captures…….but then again, how would you know if I had. Certainly I wouldn't be the one telling. I would say that my main achievement within barbel fishing is having fished for and having maintained a strong desire to continue to catch barbel over a period of thirty years. I am no 'fashion' barbel angler.

Favourite Method: Fishing for barbel at night.

Favourite Venue/ river: The middle and upper stretches of the river Trent and all of the Derbyshire Derwent.

Achievements that may be relevant: None within barbel fishing aside from being asked to sit on the BS committee within the Research and Conservation section initially. However, on December 9th 2006 I accepted the invite from the committee to take up the vacant position of BS Secretary, a position that I am very proud to hold and one I intend to perform to the best of my abilities. Outside of the BS, I have been involved in specialist angling politics since I was 20 years old. I sat on the NASA committee and have been a member of the National Anguilla Club since April 1988 and have held many committee positions over those years. In 2007 I was awarded 'Life Membership' and 'Vice President' for services to the Club. Both positions being the highest accolade that can be bestowed upon a member of the NAC and of which I am truely proud to hold.

What's The future for you and barbel fishing?: I aim to promote better barbel welfare, via sensible educational methods, throughout angling and to continue to work alongside Pete Reading in promoting Research and Conservation issues within barbel fishing, as well as to promote the Barbel Society on all fronts and support each committee member in their respective positions. I'd also like to succeed in catching a 13lb plus barbel from both the Trent and Derbyshire Derwent.

Anything else that paints a picture: I am a founder member of the Trent and Derwent RATS. It can only truthfully be described as a 'secret society' and consists of a small group of friends who seek to promote better barbel welfare and responsible angling practice on river systems wherever it is found wanting. We also aspire to 'giving' rather than 'taking' within our angling exploits. Membership is by invite only.

Given that I am politically motivated and sit upon a few committees, I am, believe it or not, relatively shy and do not seek to promote myself on a personal level within angling, via photos of myself and fish that I have caught. Most people, when asked about me, would say Steve who?.........and that's just fine with me.
